  • about 1/2 cup maple syrup (warmed gently)
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract or the scrapings of 1 vanilla bean

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, whisk together flour, brown sugar, baking powder, cinnamon, nutmeg, clove, and salt.
  2. In another bowl, mix milk, melted butter, egg, and vanilla until combined.
  3. Combine wet and dry ingredients gently; fold in grated apples.
  4. Preheat skillet over medium heat; lightly grease it.
  5. Pour batter onto the skillet using a 1/4-cup measure; cook until bubbles form on top, then flip and cook until golden.
  6. Keep pancakes warm in an oven while cooking the rest.
  7. To make your homemade vanilla maple syrup, simply stir together warmed maple syrup and vanilla extract (or scrapings from a vanilla bean).
