  • 2 cloves garlic (minced)
  • 1 tablespoon all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup heavy cream (or whole milk)
  • 1/2 cup Parmesan cheese (optional)
  • 1 teaspoon fresh thyme
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F and lightly grease a medium-sized ceramic baking dish.
  2. Thinly slice the Yukon gold potatoes using a mandolin or sharp knife.
  3. In a large pot over medium heat, melt butter and sauté minced garlic until fragrant.
  4. Stir in flour to create a roux, then gradually add heavy cream while stirring until thickened.
  5. Remove from heat and mix in Parmesan cheese (if using), thyme, salt, and pepper.
  6. Gently combine sliced potatoes with the sauce in a large bowl until evenly coated.
  7. Layer the potato slices upright in the prepared baking dish, pouring any remaining sauce on top.
  8. Cover with aluminum foil and bake for 30 minutes; then remove foil and bake uncovered for another 30 minutes until golden brown.
