Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb ground beef

  • 1 small onion, diced
  • 2 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 tablespoon tomato paste
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 1½ cups beef broth
  • ½ teaspoon dried thyme
  • ½ teaspoon paprika
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Optional: ½ cup frozen peas or mixed vegetables
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour (for dumplings)
  • 1½ teaspoons baking powder
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon butter, softened
  • ½ cup milk (whole or 2%)

Instructions

  1. Brown the ground beef in a skillet over medium heat until fully cooked; drain excess fat.
  2. Add diced onion and sauté until soft; stir in minced garlic for about a minute.
  3. Mix in tomato paste, then sprinkle flour before gradually adding beef broth while stirring to avoid lumps. Season with thyme, paprika, salt, and pepper; simmer for 8–10 minutes.
  4. In a separate bowl, combine dumpling ingredients (flour, baking powder, salt, butter, milk) until just mixed.
  5. Drop spoonfuls of the dough onto the beef mixture; cover and reduce heat to low, allowing to steam for about 15 minutes.
  6. Let sit uncovered for an additional five minutes before serving.
