  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 5 oz bittersweet chocolate, chopped
  • 2 1/4 cups unsalted butter
  • 8 cups powdered sugar
  • 1 cup natural unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 57 tbsp water/cream
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • Black gel icing color
  • 4 oz red candy melts
  • 2 tbsp heavy whipping cream
  • Sprinkles

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease two round cake pans and line them with parchment paper.
  2. In a bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  3. In a separate bowl, cream together butter, vegetable oil, and sugar until fluffy. Add eggs one at a time, then mix in buttermilk and vanilla extract.
  4. Melt the bittersweet chocolate and let it cool slightly before adding half to the batter. Divide the batter into two bowls; color one with black gel icing color.
  5. Alternate scoops of each batter into prepared pans to create a marbled effect.
  6. Bake for about 20 minutes or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean. Allow to cool before frosting.
