Coffee Buttercream Frosting

A delightful and easy frosting that combines coffee and buttercream, perfect for cakes and cupcakes.

Ingredients
  

  • 1 cup unsalted butter room temperature
  • 3-4 cups powdered sugar
  • 1 tablespoon instant coffee or espresso powder
  • 1 tablespoon boiling water
  • tsp salt omit if using salted butter
  • 2 tablespoons milk or heavy whipping cream up to ¼ cup if desired

Method
 

  1. In a small bowl, mix boiling water and instant coffee until combined.
  2. In a standing mixer or large bowl, cream butter for 3-5 minutes until very light and creamy.
  3. Turn off the mixer and add powdered sugar. Beat on low until it starts to combine, then mix on medium for 3-4 minutes until light and fluffy.
  4. Add the prepared coffee mixture and salt, then mix until combined.
  5. Mix in milk or heavy whipping cream one tablespoon at a time until you reach your desired consistency.
  6. Use this frosting on cakes, cupcakes, or cookies as desired.
